Introduction

This index page is designed to make it easier to find particular material on the genealogy/family history pages of this web site. All the material mentioned in any part of this index is included in the general index, but in addition separate indices are included for those English counties for which I have created a separate page and for those towns and villages for which I have created a separate page (marked (P) after the name in the main index). There is also an index on a separate page for all the towns and villages in the main index.

Similarly there is a separate index of surnames. In this case, if the name is followed by (B) then the link is to a separate page of potted biographies for people of that name, otherwise the link is to the ahnentafel in which the name occurs.

In either case, if the name is followed by then the page had little or no data when this index was prepared. Please check back to the actual page occasionally.

The descriptive map of these pages shows the main hierarchical structure, with a brief description of the content of each page.

Some are more complete than others, but generally the aim has been to explain the origin of the name, to give a brief account of the history and geography of the county, and what web sites are available, both for genealogical and other purposes, as well as what other genealogical resources are available. There is a separate page for each of these places. The amount of detail varies, but the aim has been to explain the origin of the name, to give a brief account of the history and geography of the place, and what web sites are available, both for genealogical and other purposes, as well as what other genealogical resources are available. I also include a list of surnames of interest to me in the town or village and invite others with a family history or local history interest to have their interests and contact details listed. All of these pages contain one or more photos, and in some cases some genealogical detailed data of general interest. A more extensive index of places of family history interest to me which are mentioned in these pages is on a separate List of Places page.
